As Evolution Design Agency marks its silver anniversary, we’re reflecting on an incredible journey that started from a humble kitchen table and has blossomed into a thriving team of eight. From Dreams across the Kitchen Table to a Local Powerhouse
Evolution Design Agency began a quarter of a century ago in the modest setting of a Geelong kitchen. Lisa Hein, our visionary Creative Director, embarked on a bold adventure to turn her passion for design into a reality. Equipped with a laptop, a laser printer and a dream, Lisa started the agency as a one-woman show, determined to make a mark on the local business scene.
In those early days, convincing Geelong businesses of the importance of professional branding and websites was a challenge. Many local companies were hesitant to invest in these newfangled concepts, but Lisa’s unwavering commitment to her creative passion began to change minds.
Growth and Milestones: A Journey of Success
Throughout the years, three name changes and a lot of hard work Evolution Design Agency grew, so did our reputation. From those early days, we have achieved significant milestones that reflect our dedication and hard work:
- Prominent Partnerships: Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of working with organisations like WorkSafe, NDIS, VicRoads, Regional Roads Victoria, CLAN, HIPA, and many more, helping them strengthen their brands and make a lasting impression in the marketplace.
- Recognition: We’ve won Advertising Agency of the year three years running and received multiple nominations and been finalist in up to 5 categories in a year in the Geelong Business Excellence Awards. These honours are a testament to the passion and dedication of our entire team.

Our office is a lively and welcoming space, complete with office pups who provide a daily dose of joy and relaxation, constant supply of (great) coffee, and an assortment of snacks that keep our creative juices flowing. Reflections from Our Founder: Lisa Hein
What a journey it’s been! When I look back at where it all started—just me at my kitchen table as a 19-year-old with big dreams—I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride and joy. Evolution Design Agency has grown so much over the past 25 years, and it’s been an incredible adventure every step of the way.
My dad’s dedication to his own business was my inspiration. Watching him work hard to support our family gave me the confidence to start something of my own. Though I had various jobs and side hustles, it wasn’t until 2004 that I made Evolution my full-time gig.
One of my biggest dreams was to build a team where everyone felt valued, inspired, and excited about the work we do. Today, I’m thrilled to say that this dream has come true. Our team has grown with talented developers, designers, marketers, and a client relationship manager who all share the same passion for delivering exceptional results to our clients.
We wouldn’t be celebrating 25 years in business today without the support of the Geelong community and our loyal clients. It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey, and we’ve made it a priority to give back by supporting charitable organisations like Give Where You Live and P500, among others. As someone who didn’t grow up with a lot, it’s always been important to me to give back and contribute to the community that has supported us.
Of course, there have been challenges—every business has its ups and downs—but those challenges have only made us stronger. We’ve evolved from working remotely to sharing spaces with other businesses, and finally, to having our very own office in the heart of Geelong. I still remember the excitement (and fear) when we signed the lease for our Yarra Street studio in 2017. Despite some bumps, like dealing with water damage, we turned those obstacles into opportunities. In 2021, during the lockdown, I took another leap and bought our very own building at 184 Bellerine Street, Geelong. After a complete renovation, we now have a beautiful space that truly reflects who we are.
What I cherish most is the amazing team we have today. They’re not just colleagues—they’re superstars who make every day at Evolution a joy. The thank-you cards from staff and clients I’ve received over the years have been such a highlight, reminding me why I love what I do. Knowing that we’re making a positive impact in our clients’ lives and our community keeps me motivated every day.
